Our story Built because Florida deserved a better directory It started with a simple frustration. Looking for a reliable plumber, a good Cuban restaurant, or a trustworthy auto shop nearby usually meant scrolling through outdated listings, paid ads disguised as recommendations, and reviews that felt more like marketing than honesty. For a state as large and as local-minded as Florida, that didn't sit right. So we set out to build something simpler: a directory that puts real Florida businesses in front of the people looking for them — without burying small shops under national chains that can outspend everyone on advertising. No pay-to-win rankings, no clutter, no guesswork about whether a listing is still accurate. We started with a handful of categories — restaurants, home services, auto care — and a single question guiding every decision: would this actually help someone find what they need? That question shaped everything from how listings are organized by city, to how reviews are verified, to how pricing is kept affordable enough that a family-owned business can compete on equal footing with a franchise. Today, Local Florida covers cities from Miami to Tallahassee, with new businesses joining every week. But the goal hasn't changed: make it effortless for Floridians to find good local businesses, and make it fair for those businesses to be found — regardless of how big their marketing budget is. We're still early. There's a long list of cities, categories, and features we're working through.
