We want everyone — including people with disabilities — to be able to find and evaluate local businesses on Local Florida Directory.
Last updated: January 1, 2025.
Local Florida Directory (operated by Florida Local Directory Service Inc.) is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, screen magnification, speech recognition, or keyboard-only navigation. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time fix, and we keep working to identify and address barriers as we build new features.
This statement covers the Local Florida Directory website across desktop and mobile browsers, including public pages (search, listings, reviews), account areas, and the business dashboard business owners use to manage a listing. We currently offer the Service as a responsive website rather than separate native mobile apps, so this statement doesn't cover app-store applications.
We're working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA— a widely used standard for web accessibility. We haven't completed a full independent audit against this standard, so we don't claim full conformance today; it's the bar we're building toward and measuring ourselves against as we improve the Service.
Beyond WCAG itself, we look to a few related frameworks to guide our work:
Some of the ways we've built accessibility into the Service so far:
Search fields and filters are built from native form controls, and search results are marked up as a list so a screen reader can announce how many results there are and move between them.
Listing pages present hours, address, and contact details as real text, not text baked into an image, so they can be read, searched, and resized normally.
The review form uses labeled fields and a native star-rating control with a text equivalent, so the rating you choose is announced, not just shown visually.
Authentication forms use labeled fields, visible error messages tied to the relevant field, and standard password-visibility toggles.
The business dashboard follows the same labeling and keyboard-operability approach as the consumer site. As we roll out downloadable documents, like invoice PDFs, we'll aim to make those accessible too.
As part of our development process, we check new and updated pages using a mix of automated accessibility-checking tools and manual testing — including navigating with a keyboard only and spot-checking with a screen reader. Automated tools catch a meaningful slice of issues (like missing labels or poor color contrast) but can't catch everything, which is why manual checks and real user feedback both matter.
Despite our efforts, some parts of the Service may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitation areas include:
If you hit a barrier not listed here, we still want to know — see Feedback below.
The Service includes content we don't fully control: maps and location data from our mapping provider, and photos, reviews, and listing details submitted by businesses and other Users. We can't guarantee that third-party embeds or User Content meet the same accessibility standard as the rest of the Service, though we encourage everyone posting content to write clear alt text and plain-language descriptions — see Accessibility for Business Owners below.
We aim for the Service to work well with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and common assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnification software, and speech-recognition software. Using an outdated browser version may limit how well some accessibility features work.
Accessibility is part of our regular product process, not a separate project. As we ship new features, we look for opportunities to improve keyboard support, screen-reader labeling, and color contrast on both new and existing pages. We revisit this statement, and our progress against it, at least once a year and whenever we make significant changes to the Service, and we prioritize fixes based on the feedback we receive — see below.
